How Hyderabad's Water and Diet Affect Your Teeth

Hard water, fluoride levels and a spice-and-sweet diet all leave marks on your teeth. Here is what to watch for locally.

Where you live changes how your teeth age. Parts of Telangana have naturally high fluoride in groundwater, while treated municipal supplies vary. Both the water and the local diet leave fingerprints on your smile.

Fluorosis and white or brown spots

Too much fluoride during childhood, often from borewell water in some areas around Hyderabad, can cause dental fluorosis: chalky white patches or brown mottling on the enamel. It is usually cosmetic and very treatable with whitening, microabrasion, or veneers, depending on severity.

Staining from chai, coffee and tobacco

Daily chai and coffee stain enamel over time, and gutka or tobacco stains far faster and raises oral-cancer risk sharply. If you notice yellowing or dark patches that don't brush away, get them checked rather than reaching for harsh home remedies.

Simple local fixes

If your home uses borewell water, ask your dentist whether a fluoride-appropriate toothpaste makes sense for your family. A professional cleaning twice a year clears the stains that brushing cannot.
